Select Hardwoods to Meet a Growing Global Demand

Charles W. Kilibarda founded Global Timber Products , Ltd. in September of 1992 to meet the demand for high quality hardwood veneer logs from a growing number of international markets. The company began as a family business run from a home office. Now, 12 years later, Global Timber Products has over 300 active customers in 28 countries around the world, including Germany, Italy, France, Spain, Belgium, China, Taiwan, Korea, Japan and Indonesia, to name a few.

Global Timber has grown to become one of the dominant factors in the international supply of top-quality hardwood veneer logs. With over 35 employees, the company operates an administrative office and 2 log yards, each in a selected hardwood growing region of the northeastern United States: Vermont for its highly-valued bone-white hard maple, Pennsylvania for its high-quality cherry and red oak.

An employee network of foresters and log inspectors travels constantly throughout the northeastern forests of the U.S., purchasing logs which meet the required quality criteria for the company’s diverse network of export clients. Other species which Global buys and sells include red and white oak, soft maple, yellow and white birch, white ash, poplar and hickory.

A Network of International Markets

Global Timber has worked hard to develop both an effective domestic sourcing operation for high-quality hardwood logs, as well as a stratified network of international markets for sales of these products. Recently, the company re-located to larger offices in Lebanon, New Hampshire and continues to add new employees, including additional inspectors and foresters as well as office support and marketing personnel.

Better Access to Better Logs

In addition to the purchase of cut logs through its normal supply network, the company has begun to acquire standing timber rights for tracts of hardwood timber throughout the Northeastern region. Standing timber purchases provide access to better quality logs as well as a significantly greater quantity of logs, a necessity for continued growth in servicing Global’s expanding export markets.

The recent acquisition of a 28-acre former sawmill site in Hartland, Vermont, now used for log storage and re-shipment operations, will accommodate the company’s expected growth in the log sale business, especially as it pertains to added space requirements for receiving and processing standing timber harvests. Additional development of this property, planned for the near future, will enable production and sales of new, value-added hardwood timber products.
